Fuel prices hitting home

Rising petrol prices are making motorists increasingly angered

As petrol prices rise even higher, drivers are one group being the most heavily hit. The issue has been further compounded by prices in Kent being some of the highest around.

A garage in on the M2 near Gillingham was found to have the highest price for petrol in the UK at £1.40 a litre, diesel tipping the scales at £1.44. This increased cost is hitting the pockets of the public hard.

Samuel Bell is a student at Canterbury Christ Church University and the rising prices have taken their toll.

He said: “I can’t get about as easily now because it is so expensive. It’s limited my capacity to go out and find a job, and has affected my social life as well.”

Only a year ago, prices were much cheaper. Petrol cost a mere 114.3 pence per litre, highlighting a rise of 30 pence in just 12 months. Dianne Miller, 46, faces a 100 mile round trip to pick her son up from college, and the costs are making it more difficult.

“It’s a long journey, and doing that sort of mileage is expensive enough as it is, without a hike in prices on top. It’s certainly something that I would do without, and no doubt other motorists feel the same.”
