Christ Church football team victorious in Varsity

Canterbury Christ Church football team were celebrating a Varsity win as they overcome bitter rivals, University of Kent.

A goal by Paul Spinks after 24 minutes settled a fiery derby, with the match ending 1-0, taking the bragging rights back to CCCU for another year.

Christ Church were well supported at Stodmarsh, with spectators being accompanied by the cheerleading squad and a band. Centre back, Jason Hyde, said the support made all the difference as they could “feel the passion on the sidelines and this spurned the team on” to hold out for the win and send the loyal students of the university home happy.

The effort was eventually in vain as University of Kent beat Canterbury Christ Church, with the final score in the 2011 Varsity being 21-10.
