Disaster hits close to home

Scene's in Japan

The catastrophic earthquake that hit Japan on Friday is one of the worst natural disasters to date.

The earthquake hit 8.9 on the Richter scale and led to a tsunami and a series of fires. Experts are now warning that a second huge quake, almost as powerful as the first, could hit the country and trigger another tsunami.

The death toll is set to exceed 10,000 and a student at the University of Creative Arts (UCA) in Canterbury feared two of his family members could be in this toll.

Kei Murakami, 20, moved to England with his family when he was young however his auntie and uncle still live in Japan. He said: "They live about 50 to 60 miles from Tokyo, so they weren't near the worst of the earthquake. But because of communication being down, me and my family began to get worried and fear the worst."

He continued: "Thankfully we got in touch with them late Sunday evening. However, we still worry that this isn't the end."
